Key findings
Standalone, citable statements from the linked HMRC extract. Quote with a link back to this page. Underlying HMRC and gov.uk tables remain under the Open Government Licence v3.0. PlainISA editorial framing is not licensed for wholesale republication.
- £20,000 is the adult ISA subscription allowance for 2026/27 in this HMRC extract. Cash, Stocks & Shares, Lifetime, and Innovative Finance subscriptions share that adult pot. Unused allowance does not roll into the next tax year.
- 5 HMRC ISA wrappers sit in this registry (Cash, S&S, LISA, JISA, IFISA). The count is a live COUNT of isa_types rows, not a product catalogue.
- 3 wrappers share the £20,000 adult cap (Cash, S&S, IFISA). That is a shared ceiling, not a ranking of quality. Lifetime and Junior use different subscription limits on the same extract.
- £4,000 is the Lifetime ISA annual subscription limit (LISA allowance rank 5 of 5 on annual_allowance_gbp). The adult cap stays £20,000; the LISA slice cannot exceed this sub-limit.
- 25% / £1,000 is the HMRC Lifetime ISA government bonus rate and annual bonus cap. LISA is the only wrapper with a government_bonus_pct in this table (bonus-value rank 1 of 5 on bonus_cap_gbp). Other wrappers record no bonus cap.
- £9,000 is the Junior ISA per-child allowance (JISA). It is a separate pot from the £20,000 adult allowance, so a parent can subscribe both in the same tax year.
- 4 of 5 wrappers carry an FSCS-protected flag in this registry (cash protection recorded at £85,000 per institution). IFISA is the exception on that flag. The flag is the database field, not a personal eligibility verdict.
- 39 is the Lifetime ISA age_open_max in this extract (open by that age; contribute until 50). Non-qualifying withdrawals carry an HMRC charge of 25% of the balance, recorded as lisa_early_charge_pct. That is a published rule, not advice about whether to open one.
Annual subscription limit by ISA wrapper
Annual subscription limit by wrapper
HMRC annual_allowance_gbp on each isa_types row. Three wrappers share £20,000; Lifetime and Junior are different pots. August 2026.

- IFISA
Innovative Finance ISA

- JISA
Junior ISA
£9,000 annual subscription limit
- LISA £4,000
Lifetime ISA
£4,000 annual subscription limit
What this shows 3 wrappers sit at the adult cap. Lifetime is a smaller sub-limit inside that pot. Junior is a separate per-child allowance. Shared height is not a quality ranking.
How to read these numbers
Allowance, bonus, age gates, and FSCS flags are registry fields, not product advice. A shared £20,000 adult cap is a ceiling three wrappers occupy together; ROW_NUMBER ties on that field are not a league table. Junior ISA money is extra to the adult pot. Lifetime bonus rank and allowance rank diverge on purpose: one measures HMRC top-up value, the other measures the annual subscription limit. See methodology (corpus placement) for how those ranks are defined.

Every allowance, limit, and rate on PlainISA is rendered from the current gov.uk ISA rules and the HMRC ISA Managers Guidance Notes as recorded in our database, and no number is typed in by an editor. This page draws directly on the isa_types and stats tables. No figure is typed in by an editor. Read our editorial standards and corrections policy, the methodology behind these numbers, or report a data error. Our database was last rebuilt on 15 August 2026.
Primary statutory sources: gov.uk’s Individual Savings Accounts guidance and HMRC’s ISA Managers Guidance Notes. Historical context is checked against HMRC’s annual ISA statistics.
